I can’t say I’m a huge fan of eating salt-cured fish eggs, however, I was drawn to the idea of caviaresque nails. It’s not so new in the list of latest nail trends, in fact, the first sighting of the beaded nail dates back to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in February 2011. Since then there has been a wide range of DIY methods as well as commercial kits available to purchase in stores around the world. Knowing my tendency to fail at DIY projects I opted for the commercial solution which directed me to the Ciate Caviar Manicure.
Purchased from Mecca Cosmetica for $36 AUD, it is quite pricey for nail polish and micro beads but if you apply it right and use it on special occasions it can be justified in my mind
I must say, I never thought doing a manicure could be so enjoyable, I usually see it as a chore but there’s something about sprinkling your nail that reminds me of art time in primary school, it feels a little silly but its just plain fun.
This is the second time I’ve worn this manicure. The first time the beads lasted on my nails for 5 days, the packet estimates 48 hours so I was quite proud I found a way to get the best use of my purchase. The secret is to let your nails completely dry between coats, and apply the beads on the second or third coat. Also, the beads won’t stay unless you gently press them in on the application. If you have created a nice little sticky bed for them to lie on, you need to tuck them in!
The end result: something different and fun! Have you tried the nail trend? What do you think of it?
