Now with Summer truly behind us, I can understand if you are planning to go somewhere warm, calm and isolated. Whoever it is you may be going with, say a loved one, friends, family or perhaps by yourself, I have something you might like to try.
These days, a thing called technology drives society. Social media constantly updating you with what’s going on in the world, and in your social circle. Many people are quite attached and feel the need to always have their phone with them. People fill that awkward feeling ‘standing there not doing anything’ by going on their phone and perhaps sending a text to someone or playing a game. Does that sound like you?
This may not work as well depending on where your holiday designation is, but say you arrive in Bali, turn off your phone but bring a camera. By doing this, I promise you will find out things you never knew about the people you’re with. It would help if they also cooperated of course. Though this is the way we communicate nowadays, however if you get a chance to break away from the need to have your phone around, a lot more will be discovered.
Don’t try and make an excuse because you’re going with yourself for alone time, you will get to know you, yourself better.
We are so caught up with other people’s lives that half the time we don’t know what’s going on in ours. It can be a little challenging to put down your phone, leaving Instagram, Facebook and what not, but I can almost guarantee it’ll be worth it. Take a book instead, and actually read it without the distraction of your phone buzzing constantly. Enjoy the holiday for what it is, an escape! It’s hard to escape if you are still bringing your world with you on a small device.
