The only way I was going to have a fuller eyebrow was to have them tattooed. My eyebrows were looked over by two different brow experts including Amanda and Alani. Both of these talented professionals taught me how to shape, style and fill in my eyebrows. However, having to fill them in every day was annoying, so I decided to have the gaps in my brows tattooed.
I was recommended to see Lisa Millington from Permanent Makeup for U about tattooing the gap areas of my eyebrow. I was hesitant at the idea of eyebrow tattooing after seeing so many bad tattooed eyebrows online.
Lisa explained the tattoo is not permanent and would fade over time. This means I have to have my eyebrows redone again in 12-months. She also explained I had the option of filling them in lightly during the first session and over time adding more strokes to make my eyebrow appear fuller.
Here are how my eyebrows looked before being tattooed.
This is what happened during the consultation session:
- Lisa drew what my eyebrow should look like and created the perfect shape to suit my face. They were amazing! I never thought my eyebrow could look so good. We agreed to simply fill in the gaps and enhance the curve on top of my eyebrow.
- I was happy with what everything she suggested and during this first consultation so booked a session with Lisa to have my brows tattooed.
Note: Make sure to book a consultation to find out about the process and to address your concerns. Do not feel pressured by your tattooist to do anything you are going to regret.
Having my eyebrows tattooed after the consultation session:
- After the first consultation, Lisa suggested using the ‘feather strokes’ technique to give me the results I wanted to achieve. This technique is the most natural looking as it’s basically drawing tiny little hair strokes onto the skin.
- Before any tattooing happened, Lisa obviously thoroughly cleaned my eyebrows and applied a topical numbing cream – I didn’t feel a thing.
- A colour was selected and once my eyebrows were numb Lisa started filling in the gaps. After using feather strokes to fill in the gaps I looked in the mirror and loved what I saw. Lisa then moved to the top eyebrow section, still using the feather stroke technique, to add more volume to the brow line to make them fuller.
- As soon as the tattoo was finished my eyebrows were a bit red but nothing that would prevent me going on with my daily routine.
Below are basic aftercare instructions to make sure your eyebrows last longer:
- For the first week, I applied a special cream, for a minimum of 3 times per day, and avoided harsh lotions, creams, and serums that could irritate my freshly drawn feather strokes.
- My eyebrows did get a bit flaky and dry but after 3-5 days they settled down. So make sure during this time, you do not pick or scratch your brows.
The End Result
I absolutely adore my new eyebrow shape and colour. They are gorgeous, full and most importantly they look natural. I would highly recommend having this done for those of you wanting to fill in your stubborn eyebrow areas.

Update August 2016: It’s been almost a year since I had my brows tattooed and I have to tell you I still love them. The ink has stayed in all the places I needed gaps to be filled. It has slightly fadded around the edges (this is due to the fact I use skincare products right up to the brow line). If you don’t take your products up to the brow line your ink and colour will last a long time. I can see how I would need a touch up every year and this is a procedure I will have for life!
