My Wedding Budget – How I kept my costs down
16 June 2016 by Emilia Rossi in Weddings

It’s a lovely feeling to know that my wedding was held at one of Australia’s unique places, Campbell Point House. However, to make sure it was possible to have our wedding at this venue for our friends and family to enjoy, we had to follow a tight budget.

Here are some of the things I saved money on for my wedding day:

1)   No hair or makeup trial – Saved $280

My makeup and hairstyle were not complicated; so I felt a test was unnecessary. If you decide not to have a trial, give yourself plenty of time in case you need to change or fix your hair or makeup. Here is my Pinterest Wedding board that I created with several wedding hair photos that I took inspiration from for my hair style.

2) I beaded my wedding dress – Saved $500

Beading is easy if you know how to use a needle and thread and understand how to sew into a delicate fabric. If you decide to do your beading you’ll need patience – and a lot of it! You also need to understand that ‘less is more’ as it’s tempting to go overboard with the ‘bling”.

3) I made my centerpieces – Saved between $1000 – 2000

The quotes I received for centerpieces were ridiculous. I felt I had no choice but to design and make my own, so I took inspiration from Pinterest and Instagram and ended up using painted glass bottles with flowers in them. I painted over 100 different shaped glass bottles in various tones of gold and filled each bottle with flowers.

4) Buy your flowers from a wholesale florist – Saved $1000

A wholesale florist offers a selection of flowers a lot cheaper because they cut out the middle man. If you can stick with flowers that are in season, you’ll find they are usually cheaper than flowers out of season.

5) Online Save the Dates and Invitations – Saved $1000 – $2000

You can save a lot of time and money designing, sending and managing your wedding materials online. The biggest saving is the fact that you’re not printing on expensive paper and instead sending out a paperless invite.

I used Greenvelope to send my Save the Dates and Wedding Invitations.
