I love coffee, and by that, I don’t mean drinking ten cups a day. I drink two, but the two cups of coffee I drink need to be special – they need to be fantastic.
I live close to some great coffee places but after discovering how much I’ve spent over the last six to twelve months on coffee; it was time to change my coffee habits.
Introducing my new coffee machine from Breville.

The Oracle by Breville
I’ve had the pleasure of using my new Breville Oracle coffee machine every day for the past couple of months. I’ve enjoyed waking up each day to the smell of a freshly made coffee. The machine is fast, straightforward to clean and there’s minimal waste.
I bought the machine at the end of Feb 2020 and so far this is how much it’s costing to make a cup of coffee per day.
Since the end of Feb, when we purchased the machine, I’ve spent $130 on coffee beans. If I break this down per day I’m only spending $2.1 per day to make two cups of coffee, this also includes the cost of the milk. Remember I want to use my new machine to make all of our hot drinks. So this $2.1 per day also includes the cost of making one babycino and one turmeric latte. This means instead of paying $17.50 for two cups of coffee, one turmeric latte and one babycino I’m only spending $2.1 per day to make all of these drinks. I’ve calculated that on top of this, it would take less than one year to pay off the machine. So for me, this is definitely worth it.
The decision to buy this machine over others was an easy one as we had a raving review from a friend who is a true-blue coffee snob and he swore by his Breville Oracle coffee machine.
After I weighed up the upfront cost, the cost of the beans, milk etc., I’m confident our new Breville coffee machine will reduce the money our entire family spends on hot drinks each year. I’m more than happy to say goodbye to those overpriced babycinos!
The other factor I took into consideration was the resale value. These machines are currently selling for over half of their RRP on eBay and Gumtree, which gives me the confidence to sell my machine if I ever need to upgrade it in the future.
Here are some highlights of the Breville Oracle coffee machine:
- It features a cool backlight which allows you to use your machine in dim lit areas
- Super easy and speedy self-cleaning features
- Very well made fixtures – everything feels high quality and extremely intuitive to use
- UV coated coffee lid that protects my coffee beans from any light coming into my kitchen
- An easy to use knob to move the machine across the bench safely and with minimal effort
- It automates two out of the three functions required to craft the perfect cup of coffee. The next model up from this one automates all three functions.
Breville should make it more visible to buyers that this machine is designed and built here in Australia (perhaps now is a great time to start advertising that). The other cool thing about this machine is the specialised in-home coffee training provided to selected suburbs only. This service is known as the White Glove Service. I was surprised to discover from our lovely Breville barista named Tanya that only 20% of people take up this free and valuable service.
Breville’s White Glove Service
If you buy this machine, you qualify for an in-home two-hour lesson on how to use your machine to make the perfect cup of coffee. You can have up to five people in the session, and you’ll walk away with confidence and even some trade secrets about how to make the perfect cafe-style quality coffee at home. You’re also treated to some beautiful complimentary bags of fresh coffee beans.
Some interesting facts about Breville’s White Glove service:
- Tanya services around 7000 people per year
- The White Glove Service is free and offered to people who buy the machine (subject to suburbs)
- Tanya shared some incredible personal coffee tips as well as her favourite coffee roasters in Melbourne which is DG (stands for Daddies Girl) from Padre
- Tanya has been in the coffee industry for 20 years and can talk about coffee all day long. She even did a few stints on TVSN!
I’ve included this image below from Tanya’s Instagram profile of her top coffee roasting houses in Melbourne. Funny enough my favourite one made the list. I love the Seasonal blend from the guys at Code Black.
Here are some cool things I learnt from Tanya during our one-on-one session:
- Did you know Melbourne has the most coffee roasters in all of Australia – it’s part of our food culture?
- The perfect cup of coffee is achieved when the coffee and milk are perfectly balanced. For example, you want the milk to be smooth (not separated with the milk and froth). This is done when you remove the air bubbles and allow the milk and the froth to mix creating the perfect looking and tasting microfoam.
- Fresh coffee beans produce a thick and luscious creme – which is what you want
- Supermarket beans are a “no-no” as they do not have a batch number. So you have no idea when (or how long) those beans have been in those bags for.
So, if you’re in the market for a coffee machine this one is worth adding to your shortlist. If you have any questions about this machine, don’t hesitate to leave your comments below 🙂
Happy coffee drinking folks!
