When I’m stuck at home bored I do the opposite of Spring Cleaning. Instead of clearing out all the items I don’t need in my bedroom, I seem to make or collect unique things to fill up the space and make it my own little sanctuary of weirdness. It is after all where you spend most of your time (so what if you can’t actually see it while you’re sleeping for 8 hours of the day!).
Skip checking your Facebook for the hundredth time today. Don’t channel surf until your thumbs sore. If you’ve got no plans this weekend, grab some paint; rip up some of mum’s fabric and use your imagination. Be inspired!

I picked up this amazing British Smiths clock from a market in Sydney. It was a steal and is a real stand out piece!
Troll your local op shops for vinyl records. You can collage them or paint them like my friend and I did. The stunning romantic artist Eugène Delacroi and the artwork from Coldplay’s ‘Viva La Vida’ was our inspiration.
I literally found this ukulele on the street! I came home and painted it up and scribbled words all over it. Sure I don’t know how to play any kind of musical instrument, but who ever said form can’t win over function?
After working for a jewellery store for over two years, I started to literally run out of room for my jewellery! I picked up this moustache hanger on sale from Typo and grabbed the stand and mannequin hand from work (but I’m sure you can source these online). The ‘jackelope’ head (a mix between a jackal and an antelope of course!) also came from Typo and was given to me last year for my birthday from a friend.
If you have a wooden pelmet above your window, hit up your local fabric store and find some unique prints to match back with your furnishings and bedspread. This elephant material was perfect for my African themed room, and the shark tooth beads hanging down were stitched by hand to give some edge to the print!
