This month, Melbourne hosted a month-long Fashion Festival at the old Royal Exhibition Building in Carlton. The venue was perfect because it’s big enough to include a grand entrance (inside and outside) that included various interactive food, beauty and fashion stands. There was also a massive selfie wall – which was impossible to get close to with the many people taking selfies before and after the show.
Farfetch sent two front row tickets to experience one of the extravagant fashion shows from the event which featured some of the most innovated (established and emerging) fashion designers in Australia. High profile bloggers also attended the event such as Carly Gordon, Tammy-Christina and of course the darling Nadia Bartel who all showcased their unique styles from the event across their Instagram profiles.
As part of my invite, I was asked to write a post featuring the designers I watched including Bassike, KITX, Bianca Spender, Christopher Esber, Albus Lumen, Scanlan Theodore and STRATEAS CARLUCCI.
The Designers from the Virgin Australia Fashion Festival
Scanlan Theodore was the first designer to walk out on the runway. The crowd was treated to some standout pieces including a bomber style jacket with an intricate and very detailed floral appliqué. They also combined their looks with plenty of ankle suede boots.
Bassike mastered a casual tailored look featuring upmarket basics with an edge such as clean seam lines and contrasting stitching. They also included a cool universal jean that could easily be worn by both sexes.
Albus Lumen
Featured a lot of high splits dresses featuring a lace tie up in the front. Their pieces were loose fitting with some pieces headlining a luxury athleisure feel.
Strateas Carlucci
The crowd was dazzled with luxury fabrics. This collection was simple, unique and elegant and I liked how they combined structured pieces with fabrics that draped effortlessly from the body.
KITX
KITX presented a very formal, yet feminine collection. Their designs were constructed using sustainable and ethical fabrics. The collection featured a stunning emerald green dress (which you can clearly see the video above) that flowed elegantly – some people in the audience even gasp slightly when the dress went past them.
Christopher Esber
It’s no surprise how edgy this collection was from this new Aussie designer who is known for his innovative cuts. The collection was very fashion forward, and it felt like his looks were one step ahead of the other designers. The stand out design for me was a gorgeous a-line mini shiny dark blue navy skirt accompanied with an interesting draped white silk shirt.
