I’ve never seen so many Nikes around the city, since when is it actually a fashion trend? It was a slow growing one, though when people really took notice of it they just blew up and spread everywhere. On Bourke St, Chapel St and all through Melbourne’s CBD you see people wearing mostly the Nike Free design with either jeans, leggings or actual running gear. You can’t tell whether it’s actually used for sporting purposes, though I do find it quite fascinating; seeing as people want to seem healthy, fit, and a good lifestyle, is this an attempt to come across in such a way?
Shoes are a funny thing, if they do not look a certain way it supposedly does not match, or doesn’t look right. What happened to the days where runners were the biggest no-no? Yes runners may give more support and are more comfortable to walk around in, no doubt about it. It just shows how odd trends may become something mainstream, as many of them do. I always wonder how people discover such trends, and how on earth they spread like they do.
I, myself own many pairs of Nike runners as I am involved in a decent amount of sport, especially last year. I spent a year training for a 30km run, and had no idea that when this finished I would step into the city to see how I dress for runs becoming a trend.
What is you favourite pair of runners?
