The Spring Racing Carnival is a three month-long world class celebration which runs each year from September to November. It showcases Australia’s finest thoroughbred racing and fashion with hundreds of thousands of people gracing their presence to the numerous race events taking place during the Spring Carnival in Melbourne and in various Victorian country racecourses. The major highlight of the Spring Carnival is the Melbourne Cup held every year on the first Tuesday in November. The Melbourne Cup Carnival creates a fashionable festive atmosphere unlike any other Australian sporting event. It is known as the ‘race that stops a nation’ and is celebrated with various social events in workplaces and venues in Melbourne and across the country.
In the next couple of blog posts, I will write about some of the race events held during the Spring Racing Carnival which will also feature and share with you Spring Carnival fashion tips from Christine Waring, one of Australia’s finest and most talented milliners who has been designing and making hats and fascinators for over 20 years from her studio in Canberra.
A bit about Christine and her collection: A professionally trained model milliner, Christine Waring has been a member of the Australian Millinery Association since 2001. Christine is invited to European hat festivals, teaches when she finds the time and has been creating original designs for over 20 years.
Sometimes art, often fun; her hats are always so wearable. As many winners of best-dressed or best-hat at important Australian racing carnivals have acknowledged, now more than ever, Christine’s hats integrate your view of contemporary fashion with artistic flair and edgy trends. Derby Day
Derby Day is all about traditional black and white colour scheme. It embodies glamour, elegance and sophistication. It’s impressive to see women each year creating different looks, textures and designs within the restricted colour palette.
Christine Waring’s Fashion Tips:
1. Dress in monochrome elegance
2. Knee skimming designs for that elegant look
3. Pillbox/Beret with sculptured trimmings or an elegant platter hat is a must
