I first meet Chelsea, a Melbourne stylist, 2-years ago when I purchased one of her styling packages that included a half-day shop.
I contacted the lovely Chelsea again for her styling help. Despite the fact that I was feeling a lot happier and healthier, I was frustrated with my clothes. My outfits weren’t reflecting the way I was feeling inside.
Chelsea came over to look at my to see the clothes I was wearing and understand which pieces were making me feel dull.
Some of the things Chelsea noticed when looking at my wardrobe include:
– My jackets and cardigans were all the same style. Instead, I needed styles that were different to create variety and interest.
– My comfortable flat shoes were outdated and needed more fashionable, stylish runners and ankle booties to wear with skinny jeans.
– I needed accessories that would create texture when I was layering my clothes.
Below are some things I bought during the shopping trip that refreshed my look:
1. Ankle boots
I have to make sure my ankle boots don’t cut my ankle or calf in the wrong place, or they will make my legs look frumpy. Chelsea explained that I should never wear boots that cut straight across the widest part of my ankle or calf. Instead, choose booties that sit below the largest part of my ankle or calf.

2. The perfect t-shirt
I needed basic white, grey and black shirts to wear tucked in or loosely over my jeans. People who are also pear shaped, like me, should avoid t-shirts which are box shaped and instead wear styles that are slightly tailored i.e. the shirt comes in around the smallest part of the waist.
T-shirts should also sit on the body just above the hips, or you run the risk of drawing people’s eye to the wrong place. I bought a few shirts from Karen Millen and Witchery.
3. Long jackets
Chelsea suggested that I should follow the same rule when shopping for long jackets. I was on the hunt for a different kind of jacket (since I kept sticking to the same styles). I wanted a longer style that I could layer or wear on its own over a shirt. It had to be tailored, sharp and classy. I also wanted a jacket that didn’t hide me and instead showed off my very feminine shape. I found two perfect wool jackets at Marcs that I wear with my skinny jeans. For a more polished look, I wear these jackets with my Asilio tight pants, ankle booties, and my oversized scarf.

I enjoyed my styling session with Chelsea and got a lot out of it. I will see her again when my style is feeling dull because she brings life back to my outfits.
