Just trying to grab your attention, sorry. Essentially this post should be called Colour Blocking Your Neon, but who wants to read that article? Ignoring my previous rant about the fickleness of fashion mags with their ‘fashion is constantly evolving’ mantras but repetitive aesthetics built from recycled trends, hey I’m fickle too. As with all people in fashion, who swear off an item one minute then the second Marc Jacobs reinterprets it and send it down the catwalk all dolled up and jazzy they deny ever hating on it, I’m a hypocrite too. We’ve been told for three years now to add a hint of neon to an outfit, on the heel of a pair of Louboutins or with a Cambridge Satchel Company bag, so I’m telling you to pile on as many neons as possible. Let’s saturate this trend until it finally glows away.

Use lace to break up the colours. Let the neon peek through, as seen at Dior this season with Raf Simons’s delicate laser-cut lace breaking up the glare of that florid colour palette. This season you’re still good to make any ridiculously bright item tie into an outfit by pairing it with black cigarette pants, 90s chunky boots (get as much tread on them as possible; if you couldn’t climb a mountain in them they’re no good) or a white shirt. This is the internship look to fall back on if you want the terrifying anno supermodels who stomp the halls at Condé Nast to become your colleagues and pay you any attention at all. Neon grabs attention, it screams ‘Don’t run me over’ or ‘I have authority, fear me’. Obvz working in fashion you gotta love attention else you may as well rock up bore up in a boot-cut grey trouser suit and court shoes (see Devil Wears Prada for how this will go down); go be a lawyer.
